- Does edX have to comply with GDPR, CCPA, and/or other privacy and data protection laws and regulations?
Given edX’s global reach with learners and partners, it is required to comply with certain applicable privacy and data protection laws and regulations, including the GDPR and CCPA. - What data does edX have about me?
The information collected from users and visitors to edx.org is described in the Privacy Policy (under the heading “Information That edX Collects From and About You (including Personal Information)”). edX requires personal information only in limited circumstances as described in the Privacy Policy.
Much of the information that edX stores about you is available via your edX account. This includes your profile information, account settings, and your dashboard. The dashboard lists all current and archived courses in which you are enrolled and includes links to any course and program certificates you may have earned. Through the dashboard, you can also access the course content and view your work and performance on assessments and your posts in public forum discussions. If you need assistance locating any of the information available via your edX account, please let us know.
As explained in the edX Cookie Policy, cookies and other similar tracking technologies are also used to track information about your activity on the edX website (for example, which pages were visited). Please read the “Types of Cookies Used by edX” section of the Cookie Policy for more information on the different types of cookies used and their purpose(s).
- Does edX collect biometric data?
At this point neither edX nor any of our data processing vendors collects any data or conducts any specific technical processing (e.g., no 3D faceprint technology) that would qualify as biometric, except with respect to certain courses where facial recognition is used for identity verification where required by the Member, and those that have remote proctoring where the learner has given specific consent. - Does edX sell or give my personal information to advertisers?
As described in the edX Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, in some cases, we disclose Identifiers and Usage Data to business partners in order to deliver ads that are more relevant to you and to measure and report on the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. Under the CCPA, some of these data disclosures may be broadly considered a “sale” of information, even though these activities do not fit what most people would understand “sale” to mean. Except for these types of disclosures, we do not sell your information. To opt out of the sale of your personal information, please visit the “Do Not Sell My Information” link at the bottom of each page on the edX site. - Does edX use cookies or tracking technologies and/or share my information with any vendors?
