- Have you used Proctortrack version 1 before? Follow these instructions as there are updates to the Proctortrack software.
Before you take the exam
Before you take a graded exam with Proctortrack, please ensure you've met the requirements:

You must have an approved onboarding status before you can proceed with the graded exam proctored by Proctortrack. To accomplish this, please follow instructions on Taking a Proctortrack Onboarding Exam to complete onboarding.
New to Proctortrack?
- Enter the proctored exam section of your course. You will receive a message like the following. Please select ‘Continue to my proctored exam’:
2. Review the instructions. Then, select ‘Start System Check’:
3. You will now be directed to a new Proctortrack tab. Select ‘Download Proctortrack’:
4. Proctortrack will then download at the bottom of your window (the download may take a few minutes to complete). Once downloaded, please select ‘Open’ on the Proctortrack.pkg:
5. You will now be guided through installing Proctortrack via your device’s Installer window. You will see the following once the install is complete:
6. Next, return to the Proctortrack tab and select ‘Open Proctortrack’:
7. You may now receive several pop ups asking you to allow access to your microphone and camera. Please select ‘Ok’:
8. You may also be presented with the following screen on the Proctortrack app that requests you to grant Proctortrack access to several settings on your device. Please click to ‘Open System Preferences’, and then follow the instructions in the application. You will be required to allow access in your Security & Privacy settings to your camera, microphone, screen recording, and accessibility:
If you do not see Proctortrack listed in all of these sections of your Security & Privacy settings, please restart your device. After restarting, please navigate back to your exam on edX.org. You will then need to go through steps 1 & 2 again. Once you arrive back on the Proctortrack window, you can again click ‘Open Proctortrack’ and then grant Proctortrack access to these four settings.
9. After allowing all required settings to access Proctortrack, please select ‘Done’. You will then automatically connect to the Proctortrack app. Please then select ‘I agree to the policy’. Your device will then go through a system check. Once your device passes, you will be presented with the following message. Please select ‘Continue’:
10. You will now be brought through verifying your identity with Proctortrack. Please follow the instructions to first take a selfie of your face, and then a photo of your identification card (such as a driver’s license or passport).
11. Next, you will see a ‘Test Guideline’ page. Please review the rules for your exam. Then click ‘Start Proctoring’.
12. You will now see a small window in the bottom right hand of your screen that shows your face being recorded. You will also notice a blue frame around your screen. This indicates that you are now being recorded.
13.. Next, redirect back to your edX.org window and select ‘Start Exam’.
14. Once you complete the exam and submit all answers, select ‘Yes, end my proctored exam’ on edX.org and ‘END PROCTORING’ on the Proctortrack app on the top of your screen. You will see your exam upload on the Proctortrack app. Once it has uploaded 100% you may quit the Proctortrack application.
Returning Proctortrack users
- Enter the proctored exam section of your course. You will receive a message like the following. Please select ‘Continue to my proctored exam’:
2. Review the instructions. Then, select ‘Start System Check’:
3. You will now be directed to a new Proctortrack tab. If you have taken a Proctortrack exam before October 16, 2021, you may have the old Proctortrack application still installed on your device. Please uninstall the old version of Proctortrack from your device before attempting your exam. You can either click ‘uninstall’ towards the top of the page to view instructions, or click here to view instructions on the Verificient website.
4. After you have uninstalled the old Proctortrack application and emptied your Trash, please return to the Proctortrack tab and select ‘Download Proctortrack’:
5. Proctortrack will then download at the bottom of your window (the download may take a few minutes to complete). Once downloaded, please select ‘Open’ on the Proctortrack.pkg:
6. You will now be guided through installing Proctortrack via your device’s Installer window. You will see the following once the install is complete:
7. Next, return to the Proctortrack tab and select ‘Open Proctortrack’:
