What types of certificates does edX offer?

EdX currently offers two types of certificates: individual course verified certificates and program certificates. Note that not all courses offer certificates, and that archived courses do not award certificates.

  • Verified certificates are available for a fee that varies by course. These certificates require you to verify your identity before you can receive your certificate. Certificates are awarded for a passing score that varies per course.

There are currently three program certificates:

  • XSeries certificates are available to learners who successfully complete and earn verified certificates in each course in an XSeries program.

We also will soon award two more program certificates

You can also audit any edX course. You do not receive a certificate if you audit a course, but you can print your Progress page for the course if you want evidence of your achievement.

For more information about receiving edX certificates, see Receiving Your Certificate in the EdX Learner's Guide.
