Your current enrollment in courses and programs will not change. You will also keep any existing certificates/credentials you have earned, and still be able to earn ones you are currently pursuing.
Who is 2U?
For more than a decade, 2U, has been the digital transformation partner of choice to great non-profit colleges and universities delivering high-quality online education at scale. As the parent company of edX, 2U provides over 40 million learners around the globe with access to world-class education in partnership with more than 230 colleges, universities, and corporations. Its people and technology power more than 3,500 digital education offerings — from free courses to full degrees — and help unlock human potential.
What 2U content do I have access to now?
Starting today, you can check out Boot Camps and Executive Education courses from 2U partners on edX.org. In the near future, we look forward to bringing additional undergraduate and graduate degree programs from 2U’s partners to you.
Were any updates made to the privacy policy and terms of service? What does this mean and do I need to take any action?
We updated the edX Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to clarify that your edX account is now provided by 2U. No action is needed from you at this time. You always have the ability to manage your information by updating your profile, downloading copies of your earned credentials, or deleting your account. Please note: if you delete your account, it cannot be restored in the future.
Is edX still a nonprofit?
No, we have moved on from our nonprofit roots to expand as part of 2U, one of the world’s leading education technology companies. 2U plans to operate edX as a public benefit company, which is a class of purpose-driven organizations that balances the public good with the interests of shareholders.
Will your prices increase?
There are no changes in the short term to pricing.
Will the free/audit track still exist?
2U is committed to keeping the existing free/audit track that edX currently offers. It’s important to us, because it’s important to you. You can continue to ‘try before you buy’ as you determine the best content for your learning needs.
How does this impact the way you gather, use and store my data?
edX has always taken privacy very seriously; protecting the privacy and security of all learners is paramount. Your edX account is now provided by 2U in accordance with edX’s current Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Will Financial Assistance still be available?
There are no immediate planned changes to financial assistance, and all awards made will be honored. We will be sure to update learners in real time about any changes to or new policies for financial assistance.
Will learners/edX account holders still be able to submit donations? What if I made a donation recently, where will the money go?
edX will no longer be accepting donations. If you made a donation prior to the day the deal closed, you can be sure that it went to good use in support of the nonprofit's operations and mission-oriented initiatives.
What is the difference between a nonprofit and a public benefit company?
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit is a tax-exempt entity that serves a charitable mission for the public good. A public benefit company is a for-profit entity that is purpose-driven and balances the public good with the interests of shareholders.
