Before you start taking the exam, be sure that you are aware of the exam rules for your course. Your course might have different rules from the basic Proctored exam rules and requirements.
To take a proctored exam
- In the course, open the proctored exam.
-
On the page where you agree to or decline taking the exam with online proctoring, select Yes, I want to take this exam with online proctoring.
Note: If you select No, I want to take this exam without proctoring, you will not have another chance to take this exam as a proctored exam. Additionally, you cannot receive academic credit for this course, regardless of your final grade.
-
On the Set up and start your proctored exam page, you are assigned a unique exam code that is associated with your edX account. Copy this code now - you will need to enter it later, when you are prompted to do so during the proctoring software setup.
-
Follow the steps in Setting up the proctoring software to download and set up the proctoring software.
-
Begin the exam.
When you have successfully set up the proctoring software, your proctoring session starts in the PSI Secure Browser window.
Note: Do not close this window until your exam has ended. Closing the Secure Browser window before you have finished the exam will end your proctoring session and submit your exam to edX. You will not be able to reenter the exam.
Your exam data, including desktop and webcam video and audio, will be continuously streamed to the proctoring service via the cloud. -
In the exam, start answering your exam questions. To receive credit for problems, you must select Submit for each problem before you end the exam.
The timer at the upper right of the page shows the time that you have remaining in the exam. You will also see a preview of your webcam view in the upper right of the Secure Browser window. Make sure that your face is always clearly in view of the camera.
Note: You cannot pause or stop the timer after you have started your exam. If you close the Secure Browser the exam will end.
-
When you have completed all the questions, end the exam. To do this, select End My Exam on the timer bar, and then confirm you are finished with the exam on the next page.
-
Close the Secure Browser window to shut down the proctoring software.
The exam stops, and the data from your proctoring session is submitted to the online proctoring service for review. Reviews usually take three to five days. For more information, see Finding out your proctored exam results.
